For this assignment, I chose the GAME plan with the goal of designing a user friendly classroom webpage that parents and students can use. I also hope that my colleagues can find my webpage useful. In order to carry out my plan, I need a few resources. One of the resources that I need is guidance in how to design a webpage. I have been chosen to attend training on designing classroom web pages. I hope that through this training, I can obtain some useful information in helping me begin my classroom webpage along with information that I can pass on to my colleagues to help them get started as well. Another resource that could be valuable to me in helping me design my classroom webpage is looking at other teacher’s webpages to get an idea of how they set theirs up and information that they included on their page.
I will be attending this training on November 30 so this is the first step in helping me to reach my goal. I am very excited about this training because I enjoy designing pages and being able to actively experience technology. I hope that once I have my own classroom webpage up and running that I can plan a lesson in which my students design their own webpage that shows portrays important information learned in class. I believe that this training will begin to open up a new horizon for me and also give me some wonderful ideas that I can use in my classroom with my students in regards to designing webpages.
I really like how you are going to a training on designing a website. I am going to have to look and see what my district offers, and even local classes, to see if there is anything beneficial to help me with my GAME plan. If there is anything that you like on the other teacher's websites, ask them how to complete that and if they can give you any tips. I never knew the skills of half of the teachers I work with until someone speaks up and says "Oh, I can teach you that!" It is crazy!!

ReplyDeleteA classroom webpage can be so valuable to students, parents, and you as the teacher. There are so many different types of webpages you can create. It all depends on what you want your students to use the webpage for. Googlesites is a great resource for creating webpages. I personally prefer Moodle. It allows you to create a webpage that is just like having an online class. The students can interact with each other as well as the teacher. You can create online quizzes that the computer will grade for you. The Moodle program has been referenced a few times in the weekly resource videos for this course. I would definitely recommend that you check out Moodle and all of its capabilities.

Laura: I have found even within my four years of teaching that colleagues can be a great resource to me in my teaching career especially those who have been teaching a while. Those colleagues are more knowledgeable in areas that I am not and can be a resource to me. I have never talked with a colleague who was not willing to help me or teach me how to do something. I never realized how blessed I was to work with such wonderful colleagues who are always willing to help me and guide me in the right direction. Through working with my colleagues, we have both gained such numerous amounts of information that has made our teaching practices better.
ReplyDeleteChad: No, I have never tried out Moodle but I will definitely have to look into it. It seems that it can be very useful in the classroom especially with online quizzes that students can take. I like the idea of it looking like an online classroom because I believe this begins exposing children to the online classroom atmosphere at an earlier age which in turn prepares them for the future. Do you use Moodle in your classroom? What do your students/parents think or say about it?
